Use /u/flamingbigtex guide to change driver, but use 'Xbox Controller' instead of 'Microsoft Xbox One Controller'. Unplug and plug your Xbox one controller; Open 'set up usb game controllers'. Fastest way to open that is to type that to the start menu. Select Xbox controller from list and press 'Properties'. With this driver, it's just a HID Class gamepad, just as any other game controller such as Logitech RumblePad 2, DualShock 3 or DualShock 4. If you want to match the hardware to add a button mapping, look for Vendor ID:Product ID 0x02d1:0x045e and/or Vendor Name/Product Name 'Microsoft'/'Xbox One Controller'. I did some research and discovered that this is due to the HID Compliant Game Controller driver. I disabled it. And using that allows you to use drivers which are better than the standard hid ones. When it comes to pc gaming though, especially on windows, your best bet is to throw it away and use an xbox controller. WarmedxMints, Jan. I cant update drivers for HID/Xbox driver in device manager. Under device manager, I have HID-Compliant Game Controller and USB Input Device which says the location is Xbox 360. I dont know which one I'm supposed to try to update.
Note For information about how to install the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows, see How to set up an Xbox 360 Controller for Windows.
Windows 8.1
On a computer running Windows 8.1, you can use Devices and Printers in Control Panel to troubleshoot the controller. Here’s how:
- On the Start screen, select Control Panel.
- Select View Devices and Printers.
- Verify that the controller appears under Devices, and then right-click the controller and select Game controller settings.
- Check the Status of the controller, and then select Properties.
- On the Test tab, test that the controller works correctly. If there are any issues, select Calibrate on the Settings tab.
- If you continue to experience any issues, right-click the controller under Devices in Devices and Printers, and then select Troubleshoot.
Windows 7 and earlier versions of Windows
On Windows 7 and earlier versions of Windows, you can use Device Manager to help troubleshoot problems with your controller, see whether the correct items are listed, and to make sure there are no conflicts.
Note A conflict is marked by a yellow exclamation point in Device Manager.
To use Device Manager, follow these steps:
- Select Start, then Run, then type sysdm.cpl, and then select OK.
- On the Hardware tab, select Device Manager.
- When the controller is successfully installed, you see three entries in Device Manager. There should be two entries under Human Interface Devices:
- HID-compliant game controller
- USB Human Interface Device
- Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
- If you see yellow exclamation points next to any of these entries, there's a problem with the installation. If there's a problem for either of the entries under Human Interface Devices, first verify that the problem is caused by the controller by unplugging it. If a hardware conflict with the controller was causing the problem, the yellow exclamation point will no longer appear after the controller is unplugged.
To resolve controller problems in Device Manager, try these solutions one at a time (move to the next solution only if the one you’re trying fails to resolve your problem):
- Use the built-in troubleshooter:
- In Device Manager, double-click Xbox 360 Controller for Windows.
- Select Troubleshoot, and then follow the steps provided.
- Remove and then redetect the controller:
- Right-click Xbox 360 Controller for Windows, and then select Uninstall.
- In the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes.
- Try updating the driver:
- Double-click Xbox 360 Controller for Windows.
- On the Driver tab, select Update Driver.
Note This information applies only to the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows. For help with other gamepads or joysticks, see the peripheral manufacturer's website or support center. For information on configuring a specific game to be played with a controller, see the game publisher's website or support center.
I try to connect my XBox One S Controller to PC via Bluetooth. I can see a controller named 'Gamecontroller', sometimes it has the name 'Xbox Wireless Controller'. When I try to pair now I have to enter a pair code or something. When I leave it blank and just press OK it seems to install the driver or something and then is 'connected'. But my controller's XBox button is still blinking and I cannot use it. Any ideas?

I have three recommendations to solve your problems.

Since it is one of the features of the new Xbox One S controller to be able to connect wirelessly to your pc, I suggest you
- restart your controller by pressing and holding the home button for 6 seconds
- remove the controller from your pc devices. Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth. Then you can select the controller and then select 'Remove device.'
- then follow the steps in this video Use Bluetooth to connect your Xbox One controller

The alternative & best way to connect a Xbox One controller to your PC is to buy this:
It doesn't cost much, you can get for less than $20 on Amazon, and trust me my friend when I tell you it will make your life easier. You simply plug it in the USB port of your pc and connect your controller wirelessly. Magic! Also it supports up to 8 controllers simultaneously as well as 4 chat headsets and 2 stereo headsets, so it's definitely worth it in my opinion!

If you need to use the controller urgently and the first solution did't work, just use a micro usb cable to play temporarily until you get the problem fixed. It looks like this:

Hope this helps!

Seems like Bluetooth 4 is needed. Bought a new Bluetooth adapter and everything worked perfectly.

I think I found a solution. My wife had the same problem after the firmware update, so I fixed it that way:
Hid Compliant Game Controller Driver
- Plug the controller by USB on the PC
- Uninstall the driver of the contriller in the 'device manager'
- Unplug the controller and turn it off
- Turn it on again and pared it by bluetooth again

After these steps, it should work.

Are you using Windows 10? You may need to update the controllers firmware to establish a proper connection. You can do this either by connecting the controller to your Xbox One while connected to the internet, or connect it to your PC with a micro USB cord. See this link for updating the firmware through a PC.
To pair the controller, hold the sync button on the top-left of the controller while you search for new bluetooth devices on your PC. It should appear as 'Xbox One wireless controller for Windows' as you stated.
If you still have issues connecting your controller, you can also use the Moga Serial to Windows Interface tool to use the controller as an XInput HID. Be certain to use the Xinput option with the utility.
Xbox One S wireless controllers use Bluetooth 3.0 communication protocol. I have used this method sucessfully on Windows 7, 8, and 10.
